The TorreMirona Golf Club course hosted this weekend the eighth edition of the Mediterranean Golf Championship, a tournament included in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) circuit, which brought together high-level international players on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The competition began on Friday with a particularly difficult day due to adverse weather conditions. After several attempts to continue play, the organizers were forced to definitively cancel the first day, giving priority to safety and fair playing conditions.
Despite this complicated start, the championship was able to continue normally on Saturday and Sunday, with two demanding and very competitive days of golf. Only in the last hours of Sunday it rained again, without preventing the completion of the tournament.
The event once again stood out for the high level of the players, the intense competition on the course and, above all, the commitment and sportsmanship shown by all the participants, who demonstrated a great capacity to adapt to the difficult weather conditions.
After two days of intense golf, the absolute winners of the tournament were:
Men’s category: Marcel Fonseca, with a score of -3.
Women’s category: Paula Jiménez Martínez, with +9.
In addition to the overall titles, the championship also recognized the best players in the junior categories. In the women’s competition, Paula Jiménez Martínez gave an outstanding performance, also winning the U-18 and U-16 categories.
In the men’s competition, the U-18 and U-16 prizes went to French player Esteban Colas, who also finished as overall runner-up.
At the end of the tournament, both the organizers and the club expressed their gratitude to the team of referees and the federation for their support, while highlighting the courage, determination and effort of all the players who made this year’s edition possible.
With the successful conclusion of its eighth edition, the Mediterranean Golf Championship reinforces its position as one of the most outstanding events on the international amateur calendar, and the organizers are already looking forward to hosting the tournament again next year.
